Alexei Yuryev chose the profession of literature teacher largely under the influence of his uncle, the actor Alexander Vasnetsov. The difficulties he faced at the vocational school could find their resolution when he met with his uncle, with whom he corresponded. However, the meeting brought only disappointment. All the truths of the actor turned out to be just elements of the game. The idol is debunked, the bride leaves Yuryev to the artist, and the teacher himself on the verge of collapse. But a student appears, believing in the high ideals of her teacher - and life begins to make sense.
